Recently Starbucks and Teavana has made "Good feels Good" their marketing campaign. Do they know the magnitude of their statement? What does it mean to be "good"? It seems like such a nonchalant statement, but reading through Genesis, when God created the world, after each thing He created He said ... "and it is good". Then, after 6 days of creation, He looked at all He created and said in Genesis 1:31... "it is VERY good". So again I ask, what does it mean to be good? It appears "good" means it is the way God intended it to be. He created each thing, and said it is good, it is how He intended it to be. He had intentions when He created the world and he had intentions when He created us. In Ezekiel 47:12, He states "Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river... their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing". He is our provider and He provides our resources for healing.
A couple years back I was praying, and as I was going through the fruits of the spirit, I was contemplating the magnitude of each; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). I was asking myself what it meant to be, feel, and give back each fruit of the spirit. I got stuck when I got to goodness, it seemed so vague, so easy ... as I mediated on what it meant, I realized the profoundness of goodness being the way God intended it to be. So when I pray for the Lord to fill be with the fruits of the spirit, and I pray to be filled with goodness, I am praying for the Lord to restore me to the way He intended me to be.
Imagine living in a world without sin, toxins, pollution, anger, etc, the way God intended it to be .... someday we will! But in the meantime, we can strive for goodness. Starbucks and Teavana are correct, good does feel good.
